Curriculum

Matthias Voigt studied mathematics at Chemnitz University of Technology from 2004 to 2010. During this time he has spent time at the Moscow Aviation Institute in Russia, the University of Helsinki in Finland, and Forschungszentrum Jülich. Thereafter, he was doctoral student at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg and obtained his doctoral degree from the Faculty of Mathematics of the Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg in 2015. During his doctoral studies he has also done a research visit at the Courant Insitute of Mathematical Sciences in New York. Between 2014 and 2021 he was research associate at Technische Universität Berlin before he took over a W3 substitute professorship at Universität Hamburg from 2019 to 2021. From 2021-2026, Matthias Voigt was assistant professor with tenure track at UniDistance Suisse, before he was promoted to associate professor in 2026. He is currently acting as the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science and the study program director of the B.Sc. program in Mathematics and the M.Sc. program in Artificial Intelligence.

Accreditation UniDistance Suisse Research

UniDistance Suisse Commits to Exemplary Research Practices In collaboration with the University of Zurich and HES-SO, UniDistance Suisse is launching the project “Open Online Course in Good Research Practices”: an innovative program aimed at promoting good scientific practices among PhD students and postdocs. The ambitious initiative is led by Prof. Dr Thomas Voigt, Assistant Professor of Mathematics with a tenure track at UniDistance Suisse.

Swiss National Science Foundation Supports Mathematics Project of UniDistance Suisse for Noise Reduction How can mathematics contribute to the long-term and sustainable reduction of noise and sound pollution? The project titled “Numerical Methods for the Efficient Acoustic Metamaterial Design”, led by Prof. Dr Matthias Voigt from the FernUni Switzerland, presents an innovative approach to addressing this question. The Swiss National Science Foundation has approved a grant of CHF 250,000 for this forward-looking research project over the next three years. Matthias Voigt shares insights into the project.
