During this time he has spent time at the Moscow Aviation Institute in Russia, the University of Helsinki in Finland, and Forschungszentrum Jülich. Thereafter, he was doctoral student at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg and obtained his doctoral degree from the Faculty of Mathematics of the Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg in 2015. During his doctoral studies he has also done a research visit at the Courant Insitute of Mathematical Sciences in New York. Between 2014 and 2021 he was research associate at Technische Universität Berlin before he took over a W3 substitute professorship at Universität Hamburg from 2019 to 2021. Since 2021, Matthias Voigt is assistant professor with tenure track at UniDistance Suisse.
