Everything you need to know about normal and resit exam sessions, registration and exam results.
Examinations
Examination sessions take place at the end of the spring and autumn semesters. There are three exam dates in each session.
The normal exam sessions are held in January and in June.
The resit sessions are held in September for the modules taught in spring and in June or July for the modules taught in autumn.
A student who has not registered for the exam in the normal session cannot take part in the resits.
The student must be matriculated properly in order to be able to register for an exam, including taking a resit. To take exams in June and/or July, you must be matriculated in the spring semester. To take exams in September and/or January, you must be matriculated in the autumn semester.
Please register using the Student Portal Modules tab. Registration is required for each module you wish to validate, even if the final exam is replaced by work to be submitted, for example. Once registered, the module status changes from Open to Registration for exam 1. A registration confirmation is then sent by email.
All communications related to exam registration are sent to your UniDistance Suisse email address. So be sure to check your inbox regularly.
Deadlines
Registration takes place for a period of approximately 3 weeks during the semester. Meeting the deadline is imperative. You will receive a reminder of this deadline by email.
Students must be matriculated and not on leave of absence in order to be able to register for an exam, including taking a resit.
Students cannot take an exam unless they have registered for it. Therefore, please ensure that you are correctly registered for exams. Similarly, to participate in the resit of the module, you must be registered for the exam beforehand.
Admission to exams
Admission to exams can be linked to specific conditions: for example, participation in attended group classes (when compulsory) or even conditions put in place by the teaching team. Registration for exams is therefore not the same as admission to exams but is a prerequisite. In the event of non-admission to the exams, you will be contacted directly by Student Services.
If you are admitted to the exams, the status in the Student Portal will change from Registration for exam 1 to Admission to exam 1.
Deregistering from an exam
Once the registration deadline has passed and the registration has been validated for admission by Student Services, it is no longer possible to withdraw.
Is it possible not to register for an exam?
The choice of whether or not to register for an exam rests with the student. Not registering for an exam does not mean failing the module.
In this case, the module cannot be validated during the semester and must be repeated at a later date.
Once admitted to a test or exam, you must participate in it. If you are unable to do so, please send Student Services valid proof of your absence before the exam or within 5 days of the day of the test or exam. It is then not counted as a failure and you are registered for the next exam session.
Please note that absence from an exam without valid proof will be penalised with a mark of 1. The module will have to be resat. Registration for resits is automatic.
When are exam results published?
The marks are published in the three weeks following the exam in the Modules tab of the Student Portal. You will receive a notification via email when a mark is published.
Resits
In the event of failing an exam, you take part in the resit session. Resits are not subject to registration; you are automatically registered in the event of failure. In the Student Portal, the status changes to Admission to exam 2 or 3.
Resit exams are not alternative exam dates but are reserved for students who have not obtained the required result or who were absent during the test or exam.
You will need to resit the exam on the next possible date, which is:
- during the ordinary exam session for the following semester for modules which are given each semester (e.g. modules in the first year of bachelor’s degree courses);
- during end-of-semester resits for the modules (generally from the 2nd part of the studies) which are given only in spring or autumn.
Please note, to take part in a resit, students must be matriculated and not on leave of absence. If a person is on leave of absence, the resit will take place on the next exam date.
If you have a clash between two resits or between a resit and a normal exam, please contact Student Services.
Cases of plagiarism are penalised with a mark of 1.
Our teaching team offers you a quiz to make you aware of the topic. We encourage you to take the quiz at the start of your studies - and why not before your exam sessions!
