In collaboration with the University of Zurich and HES-SO, UniDistance Suisse is launching the project “Open Online Course in Good Research Practices”: an innovative program aimed at promoting good scientific practices among PhD students and postdocs. The ambitious initiative is led by Prof. Dr Thomas Voigt, Assistant Professor of Mathematics with a tenure track at UniDistance Suisse.

Promoting reproducibility and good scientific practices

Funded by swissuniversities and jointly developed with other Swiss partners, the OOC-GRP project addresses a central challenge: ensuring transparent, reproducible, and sustainable research practices from the very beginning of an academic career.

“Promoting good scientific practice and raising awareness of key topics such as reproducibility, the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), or Registered Reports is at the heart of our mission,” explains Prof. Dr. Voigt. “We aim to systematically collect existing materials and develop new content on emerging topics—concise, clear, and easily accessible.” He adds: “We want to encourage doctoral candidates and postdocs at UniDistance Suisse to continuously question, improve, and further develop their research practices.”

A national collaboration for responsible research

Behind this academically significant initiative stand Prof. Dr. Nicolas Rothen, Rector of UniDistance Suisse, Prof. Dr. Michael Kurschilgen, Assistant Professor of Economics at UniDistance Suisse, Prof. Dr. Matthias Voigt, as well as other cooperation partners in Switzerland, such as the Center for Reproducible Science at the University of Zurich, HES-SO Valais-Wallis, and HEG Fribourg.

“The idea simply emerged in the context of the swissuniversities call for proposals and from the need to develop in-house expertise on this important topic at UniDistance Suisse,” summarizes mathematics professor Matthias Voigt.
