Can Attention Be Measured Reliably?

Our attention is constantly challenged, but are the tools we use to measure it reliable and valid? Alodie Rey-Mermet, professor at the Vinzenz Pallotti University and researcher in psychology at UniDistance Suisse, and her research team have addressed this question: Is it possible to establish reliable and valid measures of attention control? She explains her approach and shares her expertise in an interview with RTS (in French).

Currently, there are numerous tasks that measure attentional control. “Our data show that these tasks measure a process specific to each task every time, but never an attentional control shared across the tasks. This calls into question how we should conceptualize and measure attentional control." explains Dr Alodie Rey-Mermet, head of the project, which is conducted at UniDistance Suisse and funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
