By signing the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), UniDistance Suisse marks an important milestone in promoting responsible and forward-looking research. In doing so, it reaffirms its commitment to transparent, fair, and scientifically sound evaluation practices, sending a strong signal in support of academic excellence.

Towards strengthening research

True to its mission of accessibility, academic excellence, and the promotion of lifelong learning, UniDistance Suisse is embedding its 2027 strategy in a dynamic process aimed at strengthening its research profile, increasing its international visibility, and consolidating the scientific career paths of its staff members.

The signing of DORA   is accompanied by an explicit commitment in the following areas:

  • Evaluation based on the intrinsic merit of research: prioritising qualitative assessment of research work based on its content rather than on bibliometric indicators.

  • Recognition of all research outputs: valuing the full range of scholarly outputs, including datasets, software, educational resources, and contributions to research policy.

  • Equity and transparency: ensuring evaluation procedures that are tailored to disciplinary specificities and diverse career paths.

  • Support for researchers: considering, alongside scientific results, teaching activities, societal engagement, and initiatives in pedagogical innovation.

  • Institutional integration: explicitly embedding DORA principles into internal policies, guidelines, and practices.

Implementation of DORA guidelines

The development of institutional guidelines is currently underway to ensure the consistent application of DORA principles in recruitment, appointment, and promotion processes. Coordination of this work is overseen by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research.
