The Canton of Wallis has just announced a consultation on a preliminary draft law for the University of Valais. This marks an essential step in strengthening the canton's position as a university hub.

The aim of this law is to transform UniDistance Suisse, with 2,500 students, into an autonomous public higher education institution, while retaining its unique educational mission in distance learning. This specialisation enables it to occupy a unique position in the Swiss higher education landscape complementing existing insitutions.

The legal framework of the university law is crucial to meeting the requirements for accrediation as a university.
