Prof. Dr. Nula Frei teaches and researches in Swiss constitutional and administrative law, with a particular focus on migration law, equality and anti-discrimination law, as well as public sector data protection and new technologies. The central question running through her work is how public law should be shaped in response to societal, technological, and international change, with a view to democratically legitimising, legally constraining, and responsibly structuring the exercise of public power.
Nula Frei studied political science (BA) and law (MLaw) at the universities of Zurich, Bern, and Lille. Prof. Dr. Frei completed her doctorate at the University of Bern with a thesis on the implementation of international provisions for victims of human trafficking in asylum procedures. Her work has been awarded multiple times, including receiving the Brigitte Schnegg Prize for Gender Studies.
Before joining UniDistance Suisse, she was an senior teaching and research assistant at the University of Freiburg, a lecturer at the University of Geneva, and held various positions in academia such as an assistant at the Institute for Public Law at the University of Bern, at the Center for Migration Law, and at the Swiss Human Rights Competence Center. She has completed research stays at the University of Giessen, at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg, as well as at King's College London.
