Dr. Claude Eric Bertschinger was born on 28 September 1987 in Schlieren and grew up in Killwangen (AG). After completing his federal baccalaureate with a focus on philosophy, psychology and education at the cantonal school in Baden, he studied law at the Universities of Zurich and Lucerne. As part of the University of Lucerne's mobility program, he also spent a semester at the College of Law at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK, USA. During his studies, he worked part-time as a legal assistant for a commercial law firm based in Zurich and Killwangen.
From February 2017 to October 2022, Dr. Claude Eric Bertschinger worked as a research assistant at the chair of Prof. Dr. iur. Andreas Eicker at the University of Lucerne. During this time, he wrote his dissertation entitled "Whistleblowing - Zur Strafbarkeit und Legitimation der Preisgabe geschützter Informationen", which will be published in spring 2024. Between 2018 and 2020, he also worked as a part-time legal lecturer for the Swiss Border Guard Corps. Since 2019, he has been a law lecturer at the Intercantonal Police School Hitzkirch (IPH). From 2018 to 2023, he was co-editor of the journal for young legal researchers "ex/ante".
Between November 2022 and December 2023, he completed his legal internship as a clerk at the District Court of Baden. He currently teaches at the University of Lucerne, the FernUni Switzerland and the ZHAW.
Since 2022, Dr. Claude Eric Bertschinger has held the position of an auditor of the Swiss military justice system with the rank of major in his militia function.
