Dr. Anu Sivaganesan Receives Award for Outstanding Research on Forced Marriage

Dr. Anu Sivaganesan, a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Law of UniDistance Suisse within the team of Prof. Dr Nula Frei, has been honored by the Swiss Association for International Law (SVIR) for her doctoral thesis.

In her award-winning dissertation, entitled “Forced Marriage – An Analysis from the Perspective of International Law and Human Rights”, supervised by Prof Dr Helen Keller, Prof Dr Andrea Büchler and Prof Dr Brigitte Tag, Dr Sivaganesan examines the legal and human rights dimensions of forced marriage in six countries across Europe and Asia. This thesis represents a major contribution to research in international law as well as to the protection of the rights of women and individuals affected by forced marriages. The work was published by Schulthess Editions.

Founded in 1965, the Swiss Association for International Law (SVIR) aims to promote scientific and practical exchange in the field of international law. Its members come from academia, the administration, the judiciary, diplomacy, and the private sector, and are interested in issues of public international law, European law, and private international law.

The award granted by SVIR recognizes outstanding scholarly work, particularly doctoral theses and habilitations, that has made a significant contribution to the development of international law. The SVIR 2025 Prize will be presented at the association’s annual meeting at the end of November.
