Nicolas Bueno Contributes to a UN Roadmap to Address Poverty Beyond Growth

Prof. Nicolas Bueno contributed to the United Nations Roadmap for the Eradication of Poverty Beyond Growth, presented on 25 June 2026 during the 62nd session of the Human Rights Council. Developed under the mandate of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty, the roadmap seeks to expand the means available to States, international organizations, and civil society to tackle poverty and inequality. In particular, it calls for consideration of approaches that do not rely exclusively on economic growth, but also take into account social well-being and environmental limits. 

In this context, Professor Bueno contributed to a reflection on the revaluation of work beyond economic growth and productivity. This includes better recognizing the value of activities that are essential to society, even when they do not directly translate into increased output or productivity. This contribution builds on his research into labour law and “post-growth” models. He is also co-editor of Labour Law Utopias: Post-Growth and Post-Productive Work, published by Oxford University Press in 2024.
