From 1 January 2027, UniDistance Suisse will become an associate member of the Conference of Western Swiss Universities (CUSO). This membership will give its doctoral researchers greater access to training opportunities, academic networks and new opportunities for collaboration within the higher education landscape of Western Switzerland.

Doctoral researchers at UniDistance Suisse will be able to benefit from the full range of doctoral training programmes offered by CUSO, including both discipline-specific and interdisciplinary courses. This will encourage exchanges between early-career researchers and strengthen scientific collaboration across Western Switzerland.

“UniDistance Suisse joining CUSO marks an important milestone for our institution. It will enable us to strengthen our involvement in academic networks across Western Switzerland and offer our researchers and doctoral researchers new opportunities for training and collaboration,” emphasises Prof. Dr Nicolas Rothen, Rector of UniDistance Suisse.

“Ma thèse en 180 secondes” comes to Valais

The first concrete outcome of this collaboration will follow in 2027, when Valais hosts the “Ma thèse en 180 secondes” competition. The event gives doctoral researchers the opportunity to present their research to a wider audience in just three minutes, in a clear and accessible way.

“We are particularly pleased that ‘Ma thèse en 180 secondes’ will come to Valais in 2027. This initiative offers doctoral researchers a unique opportunity to showcase their work while developing their science communication skills,” explains Ahmad Zein Assi, Repsonsible of the Research Support Office of UniDistance Suisse.

By joining CUSO, UniDistance Suisse reaffirms its commitment to providing high-quality doctoral training and further strengthening its ties with academic networks across Switzerland.
