The group examines the impact of new technologies, digital networks and disinformation on the commission, legal classification and prosecution of violent, terrorist and international crimes. Its research also addresses the challenges associated with digital evidence, as well as the protection and rights of victims.
The project examines how Swiss and Spanish law address violent extremism and terrorism in the digital age. It focuses in particular on doctrinal questions relating to the anticipatory criminalisation of conduct classified as terrorist, preventive criminal law, surveillance and coercive measures, and sanctions.
More broadly, it seeks to assess the coherence of current legal responses and to contribute to a critical reflection on the role of criminal law in countering extremism and terrorism.
