Raconter l’histoire des enfants placés en Suisse (1800-2000)

This public history and science communication project recounts the history of placed children in an innovative format designed for a broad audience.

Presented as a graphic novel, an interdisciplinary research team explores this dark chapter of Swiss history through a work that combines the characteristics of both comics and novels. Funded primarily by the Swiss Federal Office of Justice, the project forms part of the broader process of remembrance and recognition for victims of coercive welfare measures and out-of-home placements implemented before 1981 (more information).

This format makes it possible to visually represent the experiences of placed children while giving a voice and a face to those affected. By engaging readers through emotion, it also helps convey the violence experienced by victims, the power relations that shaped their lives, and the denial of their fundamental rights.

This project is led by Joëlle Droux from the University of Geneva. Under her supervision, Olivia Vernay and Viviane Rouiller work together with Dr. Aurore Müller on the research component of the project, while Elisabeth Voyame and Vanessa Rouiller are responsible for the illustrations.
