UniDistance Suisse has joined the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), marking an important new step in its commitment to responsible and transparent research assessment. This development complements the institution's existing endorsement of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and further aligns UniDistance Suisse with international efforts to improve how research, researchers and research organisations are evaluated.

A more qualitative approach to research assessment

As a DORA signatory, UniDistance Suisse is committed to evaluating research on its intrinsic quality and contribution rather than relying excessively on journal-based metrics. The institution also recognises the value of diverse research outputs and contributions, reflecting a broader and more inclusive understanding of scientific excellence.

CoARA: Advancing research assessment together

By joining CoARA, UniDistance Suisse becomes part of an international coalition working collectively to reform research assessment practices. The coalition promotes assessment approaches that recognise the diversity of research contributions and place greater emphasis on qualitative evaluation supported by the responsible use of quantitative indicators. It also provides a platform for collaboration, mutual learning and the development of new assessment approaches across the global research community.

CoARA membership reflects UniDistance Suisse's intention not only to support these principles but also to contribute actively to their further development. Through the coalition, the institution joins universities, research organisations and funding bodies in exploring new approaches to research assessment and exchanging good practices.

Commitments that will translate into concrete actions

Joining CoARA places UniDistance Suisse within a rapidly growing community of organisations committed to improving research culture and research assessment. The coalition currently brings together hundreds of member organisations from around the world, creating opportunities for cooperation at both national and international levels.

Together, DORA and CoARA provide a strong framework for promoting research quality, openness, transparency and fairness. By engaging with these initiatives, UniDistance Suisse continues its commitment to fostering an environment in which scientific contributions are assessed on their merit and recognised in all their diversity.
