Innovation in practice: excursion to Schwyz Next and CSEM

How is innovation supported in the region, and how do technologies find their way into practice? These were the questions at the heart of the excursion, which was open to students from all faculties. The visit was initiated by Markus Cotti, member of the Executive Committee of the Foundation Council of UniDistance Suisse and representative of the Canton of Schwyz. During the visit, participants gained insights from Celso Cattaneo of Schwyz Next and Alexander Steinecker of CSEM.

After a joint welcome, the participants were divided into two groups. At Schwyz Next, they learned about the organisation’s function, role and activities within the innovation ecosystem of the Canton of Schwyz. Celso Cattaneo explained how regional stakeholders are connected and how innovation projects are supported.

In parallel, Alexander Steinecker of CSEM presented selected examples of applied technologies and their practical applications.

The groups then switched so that all participants had the opportunity to discover both organisations and their activities. A joint practical case study complemented these insights with a concrete example from the business world.

The excursion concluded with a joint aperitif, providing an opportunity to follow up on questions raised during the various parts of the programme, talk with the hosts and exchange ideas with other participants.

The excursion gave students an opportunity to gain insights into innovation and technology beyond their everyday studies.
