UniDistance Suisse establishes a policy for the use of Artificial Intelligence

UniDistance Suisse has adopted an institutional policy governing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) across its teaching, research, and administrative activities. Effective as of May 2026, it sets out common principles to support the integration of these technologies while ensuring their responsible and controlled use.

The policy applies to the entire UniDistance Suisse community, including students, academic and administrative staff, researchers, as well as external partners with access to the institution’s systems or data. It covers the full lifecycle of AI systems, from their design and acquisition to their implementation and use, whether developed internally or provided by third parties.

The policy is based on five fundamental principles that guide all uses of AI.

• Human responsibility: AI is a support tool, but ultimate responsibility always lies with the user, who must exercise critical judgment regarding the results produced.
• Transparency: The use of AI must be appropriately disclosed when its contribution is significant, in accordance with academic and institutional standards.
• Data protection: Sensitive, confidential, or non-public data may only be processed within approved and secure systems.
• Ethics and fairness: AI applications must be inclusive, proportionate, and mindful of risks related to bias or discrimination as well as of environmental impact.
• Skills and support: The institution encourages continuous training and the sharing of best practices in AI.

Through this policy, UniDistance Suisse affirms its commitment to promoting the use of artificial intelligence in a way that is both innovative and well-regulated. It aims to support the institution’s digital transformation while ensuring respect for its core values, academic quality, and security requirements.
