On 29 May 2026, UniDistance Suisse and the University of Cologne signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a new stage in the development of their academic relations. This agreement lays the foundations for long-term collaboration in the fields of teaching, research and pedagogical innovation.

With approximately 45,000 students, the University of Cologne is one of Germany’s largest universities. The agreement reflects a shared ambition: to advance higher education through digital technologies and artificial intelligence. In particular, it provides for the exchange of expertise on AI, distance learning and digital learning, whilst encouraging the sharing of experiences between the two institutions.

A strategic partnership in the service of educational innovation

According to Prof. Dr. Nicolas Rothen, Rector of UniDistance Suisse: “The challenges and opportunities associated with artificial intelligence call for close collaboration between higher education institutions. This partnership with the University of Cologne illustrates our commitment to developing, alongside leading international partners, innovative solutions that enhance the quality of our teaching, support our research and enrich the learning experience of our students.”

First concrete steps

Launched in 2026, this collaboration will take the form of a series of joint initiatives, focusing on the sharing of best practice, tools and pedagogical approaches for distance learning. The University of Cologne and UniDistance Suisse also intend to pool their expertise to explore new applications of artificial intelligence in higher education. With this in mind, UniDistance Suisse will investigate the integration of the AI solution developed by the University of Cologne, with the aim of adapting it to its own needs and contributing to its further development.
