Most recently, Christoph Drobnersuccessfully defended his doctoral thesis, “The Evolution and Economic Consequences of Overconfidence.” The dissertation was jointly supervised by Prof. Dr Sebastian Goerg (Technical University of Munich) and Prof. Dr Michael Kurschilgen (UniDistance Suisse). Since 2022, he has been a member of the research group “Behavioural Economics and Institutional Design” at UniDistance Suisse.
In his dissertation, Christoph Drobner examines how individuals form distorted expectations despite the availability of objective information. Through carefully designed behavioural experiments, he demonstrates that people systematically interpret information in an overly optimistic way, as they derive intrinsic utility from holding positive expectations.
Christoph Drobner’s research has already been recognised with several prestigious awards, including the Joachim Herz Fellowship, the Reinhard Selten Fellowship, the Diligentia Prize for Empirical Research, and the Schmölders Prize.
At CEU, Christoph Drobner will be joining one of Europe’s leading economics departments. We wish him every success for this exciting new chapter and continued joy in his research.
