    Our approach

Artificial intelligence offers new opportunities to support learning, teaching, research and institutional services. UniDistance Suisse aims to observe its use in a reflective manner, while preserving human responsibility, academic integrity, data protection and quality of its operations.

AI is thus seen as an opportunity and responsibility at the same time. Its use must be in the context of serving people and must fit with the institution’s values and missions. This approach matches the defined framework in the institutional AI policy, which covers teaching, research and administration.

    Our principles

UniDistance Suisse has had an institutional policy encompassing the use of artificial intelligence in teaching, research and administration since May 2026. This policy applies to the whole university community and establishes a universal framework for the use, development, acquisition and integration of AI systems within the institution.

The policy of UniDistance Suisse is based on five leading principles.

    • Human responsibility: AI is a supporting tool, but responsibility for decisions and results lies with people.
    • Transparency: the use of AI must be appropriately communicated when its contribution is significant.
    • Data protection: AI tools and systems must be used while maintaining respect for applicable requirements in terms of protection and data security.
    • Ethics and equity: the use of AI must respect the principles of equity, non-discrimination and academic integrity.
    • Skills development: the members of the university community must be supported in developing a critical and responsible understanding of AI.

Conceived in an evolving framework, the policy will be adaptable to future technological, regulatory and academic developments.

    International collaboration

UniDistance Suisse has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Cologne to strengthen collaboration in this area. This agreement establishes a collaborative framework in the area of artificial intelligence in the context of higher education. It aims notably to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experiences and good practice in the areas of AI, distance education and digital learning.

This collaboration reflects the common ambition of the two institutions to contribute to developing relevant and responsible applications and AI managers in higher education.
