Valais higher education and research institutions are joining forces: with the official launch of its activities, the “Conférence de coordination du paysage valaisan des Hautes Écoles et de la recherche (CCHER)” is creating a new platform to strengthen collaboration in tertiary education and research.

The conference brings together 14 higher education and research institutions from the canton of Valais, including UniDistance Suisse. Its aim is to foster synergies, advance joint projects, and increase the visibility of the contribution made by higher education and research institutions to the economic, social and cultural development of the canton.

Through its involvement, UniDistance Suisse is playing an active role in this new body, thereby underlining its position as an important actor within the regional education and research landscape

Collaboration within the CCHER platform opens up new opportunities for all of us to combine the strengths of Valais higher education institutions and further develop them together in a targeted way

emphasises Rector Prof. Dr Nicolas Rothen.

A shared strategic direction

The conference has already contributed to the development of the 2026–2028 multi-year programme and helped define key strategic priorities for the further development of Valais as a centre for higher education and research. Over the coming years, the focus will be on strengthening collaboration between institutions, exchanging best practices, and sharing infrastructure. Joint projects in both research and teaching will also be specifically encouraged.

A strong voice for science and the region

In addition, the conference sees itself as a shared voice for science in dialogue with politics and society. It is committed to highlighting the importance of research and innovation for the sustainable development of the canton and to strengthening evidence-based decision-making. UniDistance Suisse is actively involved in the CCHER and is helping to further strengthen collaboration within the Valais higher education and research landscape.
