The School of Tomorrow project develops and scientifically evaluates evidence-based digital learning tools for second-language acquisition. Combining cognitive psychology, educational research, and neuroscience, the project investigates how digital learning environments can improve learning outcomes while advancing the understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying learning and memory.

The School of Tomorrow project develops and evaluates evidence-based digital learning environments to support second-language acquisition in school settings. In collaboration with schools in the Canton of Valais, the project combines educational practice with experimental research to investigate how digital technologies can enhance learning.

The learning platform is based on well-established principles from cognitive psychology, including spaced learning, retrieval practice, corrective feedback, and multisensory encoding. Longitudinal studies evaluate how these principles improve vocabulary acquisition and long-term memory beyond conventional teaching approaches.

Building on this educational framework, the project has expanded to investigate the neurocognitive mechanisms underlying successful learning. Using resting-state EEG and behavioral measures, recent work examines reliable neurophysiological markers of learning and long-term memory. In particular, the project has established the test–retest reliability of resting-state EEG measures and identified alpha power as a robust neural marker associated with successful second-language learning in adults, thereby contributing to more reproducible and methodologically rigorous educational neuroscience research.
