Nonlinear Optimization: Motivation, Challenges, and Basic Methods

This talk provides an introduction to nonlinear optimization, an area of mathematics concerned with finding the best possible decision or solution in a given situation. It focuses on the basic ideas of optimization and discusses key challenges that arise when solving such problems, including the curse of dimensionality. Through simple examples and visual illustrations, it explains how optimization methods work and presents approaches that are central in many modern applications, from engineering to artificial intelligence.
