This workshop brings together historians and legal scholars to analyse the entanglements between labor, corporations, and human rights. The speakers will present case studies from various geographic and historical contexts.

Academic interdisciplinary research and legal prosecution: experiences and trajectories in the field of corporate accountability in Argentina

Victoria Basualdo holds a BA from the University of Buenos Aires and an MA, MPhil and PhD in History from Columbia University (New York). She is a researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technological Research in Argentina and coordinates the program “Labor Studies, Trade-Union Movement and Industrial Organization” since 2009. She is the author of many academic publications about Latin American and Argentine labor and economic history. One of her central research projects focuses on corporate accountability for human rights violations during the Cold War dictatorships in Latin America (particularly Argentina, Brasil and Chile), which builds bridges between interdisciplinary research and legal prosecution. 

Oswaldo Ballarin. A Biographical Perspective on Swiss Business and the Military Dictatorship in Brazil.

Leila Girschweiler is a PhD student at the University of Zürich whose research is funded by SNSF-Doc.CH. Her project investigates the relationship between Swiss parent companies and their subsidiaries in Argentina and Brazil during the Cold War military dictatorships in the two countries. She holds a MA degree in Contemporary History from the University of Zürich and completed her BA in International Relations at the University of Geneva. Her research has included research stays in Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
