While the distinction between correlation and causation is widely recognized, understanding how causal relationships can be identified remains a fundamental challenge. This presentation introduces the philosophical foundations of causality and provides an accessible overview of the methods economists use to identify and estimate causal effects in empirical research. Beyond the introduction of causal methods, it highlights how adopting a causal mindset can improve critical thinking and decision-making more broadly.
